Bodytalk! What a load of Mumbo Jumbo!

An 85 year old patient came to me for physiotherapy recently after a serious fall at home. They had come for treatment on a large haemotoma on their thigh. They looked extremely ill sitting in the waiting room, very pale hyperventilating with blue lips. I was quite concerned for the person and helped them onto the treatment plinth. They were light headed and dizzy and were clearly in no state to receive a physiotherapy session. I made them comfortable and reassured them they would not be receiving physiotherapy.

I asked my patient if they would mind if I tried some Bodytalk as it tended to make people feel better rather quickly. They looked at me as if I was possessed and suggested I didn’t tell their partner in case that person got angry. A normal session proceeded and after about 20 minutes they had completed their formula. I then tapped them gently on the head and over the heart as one does as a Bodytalk practitioner. The colour flushed back into their cheeks and their breathing lightened. My patient looked at me sideways as I helped them into a sitting position. As their feet touched the carpet there was a huff and they said “What a load of Mumbo Jumbo! don’t you dare tell my partner they will be furious!” reached for the walking stick and left the room limping straight past reception out to their partner who was waiting in their car.

Two days later around 7am Scott our unsuspecting gym manager answered the centre phone. He was asked if he was the “Munbo Jumbo” man and before he had a chance to answer, the patient started thanking him profusely. They went into great detail of how they had spent all the previous day on the toilet evacuating their bowls. How over the past five years they had endured every test under the sun, and no one could find why they couldn’t “poo” properly. Even when they bled from their bowls no one could find anything wrong. And this particular morning was the first time in four years they had been to the toilet with no problems.

Scott finally managed to thank them for their feed back and reassured them he’d pass the message onto me when I got into work in a couple of hours.

During the Bodytalk session this patient’s innate used Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) definitions to highlight some of the problems they had been experiencing over the previous four years. The body needed to balance the Small Intestine and Heart systems which are an energetic pair in TCM and remove some active (emotionally charged) memories associated to family problems.
